WWCD?

When I was in high school, the acronym "WWJD" was wildly popular. Especially amongst my church youth group friends. We all sported various jewelry items, clothing, and any accessory we could think of the the letters. Most popular were the colorful bracelets.

What Would Jesus Do? It was meant to be a constant reminder that our actions should reflect those of Jesus and the example he set for us when he walked this earth. It was well meaning, but became a little cheesy through the years.

Fast forward to this past week. Two different instances I heard the phrase "What Would ______ Do?"

One of those blanks was a friend of mine who is selfless everyday as a part of his job. But, when a supervisor noticed that the kids he works with especially gravitate towards working with him above others, he posed the question as to why. What advice could you give to your colleagues to have such a positive influence in their lives? The answer... ask yourself, "WWMD?"

The other blank was my name. By my father, no less. He told me that he had the opportunity to show kindness to someone who would have otherwise felt rejected. When he was weighing his options, he said that he asked himself, "What Would Christi Do?" That was when he knew he needed to express inclusion and friendship to someone who needed it. I was a little taken aback when he told me this story. I had no idea what I had done to influence someone's actions. But, then I was reminded that the very act of being kind when it isn't necessarily convenient is more powerful that talking about it.

With all that has been going on in our world lately, it is good to remind ourselves that we are not powerless. If all of us took a little time out of our day to show a little kindness, it will go a long way. And hopefully by doing so, it will inspire others to remember what you have done and pay it forward.

Remember, kindness matters. You don't have to have a highly influential and "important" title or job. You don't have to have a platform to speak to thousands of people. You just need to show a little courtesy to your fellow human. We are all in this together, wouldn't it be nice if we treated each other likewise?
