Spring has Sprung
This past Saturday marked the official start to spring. At our house, spring was alive and well with all the hustle and bustle.
Before we moved into our house nearly 2 years ago, Aaron faithfully started seeds in planting trays on the front porch of our apartment building so that he could transfer them once we moved. That year we had so many tomatoes I didn't know what to do with them! So, Aaron purchased canning supplies and went to work on tomato sauce and salsa to can. Some plants grew, some plants left a little to be desired.
Last year, Aaron tried his hand at using seeds from the first year's harvest to grow plants. Again, he started seeds in small planting trays, dragging them out to the front driveway for sunshine during the day and then storing them in the garage during those frosty spring evenings. His efforts were successful and we enjoyed bell peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, cabbage, peas, and okra.
This year, Aaron has upped his gardening game! With his Christmas money, he purchased a pop-up greenhouse which he erected this past weekend in our backyard to begin his seeds. He has created a garden chart and schedule for all the produce he wants to see grow. This year we will hopefully see the first edible asparagus grow since we started those plants 2 years ago.
I think I am most excited to share this with Ella! All the food that Aaron has been able to provide for our family over the past few summers has been astounding, especially if you count the dozens and dozens of canned food we have eaten from year-round.
What is your favorite thing to grow in your garden?
My in-laws were in town and we were able to get a lot done around the house and errands checked off the list! What a blessing to have extra, willing hands to get some things done. One of our biggest projects this year is Aaron's beloved garden. My new joke these days is that we are only a few years away from having a booth at the Farmer's Market.
