Omaha Children's Museum: Summer 2016 Exhibits!
Last night my family got a sneak-peak of the new exhibits opening at the Omaha Children's Museum tomorrow!
They have four new exhibits - the new water table called Play Along the Platte River, Fairytale Land, Pirates and Mermaids: Voyage to Creature Cove, and Susie's Station (an interactive train depot).
Play Along the Platte River is a much larger and really interactive water table. Fun for multiple ages - since it is essentially three levels. From the tallest station to the shortest, you follow the journey from the rain falling from clouds, all the way to the Sandhill Cranes. There is a station for making beaver dams. There is an in-water lego station which represents the Nebraska wetlands. Travel over bridges to the cranes, which is the shortest area on the table, with the perfect interactive elements for small children. Ella loved the beaver and the crane areas best. My favorite was the water bubble which housed smoke that escaped when children lodged their hands in it.
From there we headed upstairs to the Pirates and Mermaids exhibit which was still under construction (they only have 1 day to finish it all up!). There is a 40 foot pirate ship for kids to climb all over which includes cannons that kids can use to shoot one of the 5 animatronic creatures. There is a large ball ocean as well. There is an area for those kids 3 and under, complete with their own ball ocean. This is the area where kids will have the chance to take pictures with a real life mermaid in a large clam shell. There were no mermaids there for us, but we took our turn taking a picture in the shell.
Right next to the little kids area upstairs is "Susie's Station." This interactive train depot includes a ticket counter for kids to play with, a stationary locomotive that kids can be their own engineer in. It is right next to the riding train, but it is free to all and does not require a ticket (the riding train still does).
Fairytale Land holds 5 princess shows a day. They have 3 different singing and dancing shows which rotate. Ella loved the story time with Princess Rose and the transformation of her dress using special magic. She was the most brave I have ever seen her, having a real conversation with a princess and even posing for a picture (no smile, of course).
All in all, this is going to be a fantastic summer at the Omaha Children's Museum and I can't wait to take Ella back so she can fully experience the Pirates and Mermaids exhibit. I promise the next exhibits will not disappoint!
